Gemini's primary snorkel destination is Honolua Bay, the marine preserve on West Maui's north shore that is widely considered the island's best snorkeling. When conditions favor another site, the crew heads for Cliff House, Lāna'i, or Turtle Town at Olowalu.
The water along this coastline is warm and full of life — schools of tropical fish, Hawai'i's state fish the humuhumunukunukuapua'a, and, with luck, an endangered Hawaiian green sea turtle. Gear and a short lesson are provided for anyone who needs them.
After snorkeling, a hot buffet lunch catered by the chefs of the Westin Ka'anapali is served and the complimentary premium bar opens. On the sail home the crew raises the sails into the trade winds — in summer watching for spinner dolphins, and from December 15 to April 15 for the humpback whales that return to Maui each winter.
Gemini loads guests directly from the sand at Ka'anapali Beach, which is part of the fun; on windier days expect to get wet to the knees, so leave the long dresses and jeans behind.
