From mid-December to the end of March the humpbacks arrive off Kauai's south shore, and 'Imiloa runs short afternoon and midday trips out to Kipu Kai to find them. Breaching, tail slaps, mothers with calves — at the height of the season it is one of the most reliable wildlife encounters in Hawaii.
