Haleakala Sunset Tour

Location: Maui, Hawaii

Duration: Afternoon through after dark

From: $308.93 per person

Maui's most superlative sunset views belong to the mountain named for the sun. This tour takes you to Haleakalā's 10,023-foot summit for sunset — then stays for the stars. The afternoon begins in the green ranchlands of upcountry Maui before climbing to the rim, where the sun sets over a crater seven miles long, two miles wide and 3,000 feet deep. As the light goes, one of the darkest skies in the islands opens overhead and Haleakalā becomes a premier stargazing site. Your NAI Certified guides share Hawaiian history, culture and preservation alongside the volcano's geology and ecology. Watch for the silversword, found nowhere else on earth, and the nēnē, Hawai'i's state bird. Haleakalā EcoTours is an authorized National Park Service partner. Travel is by 11-passenger transit van or 24-passenger mini-bus. Hotel and cruise-ship pickup is available; pickup and check-in times vary by location. It is cold and often windy at the summit after dark — bring a warm jacket.
