For guests who would rather start the day a little later, this is a full, unhurried introduction to the 10,023-foot summit of Haleakalā.
After a guided drive through the ranchlands and eucalyptus forest of upcountry Maui, the tour enters Haleakalā National Park. Your NAI Certified Interpretive Guide brings the mountain to life — its geology, its ecology, and the Hawaiian history, values and preservation work bound up in it. From the rim you look down into a crater seven miles long, two miles wide and 3,000 feet deep.
Haleakalā EcoTours is an authorized National Park Service partner. Along the way, watch for the silversword — found nowhere else on earth — and the nēnē, Hawai'i's state bird.
Travel is by 24-passenger mini-bus. Hotel and cruise-ship pickup is available; pickup days depend on where you're staying (West/Central Maui Monday and Thursday; South/Central Maui Tuesday and Friday), roughly 1.5 hours before check-in. Return is between 3:00 and 4:00 PM.
