Every other Nā Pali boat starts on the south side and spends an hour getting there. Hanalei Charters leaves from Hanalei Bay on the North Shore, which brings the coast into view minutes after departure — nobody reaches Nā Pali faster. You wade out and shuttle by dinghy to the boat anchored just offshore, which is part of the fun.
The boats are two identical 40-foot rigid-hull inflatables with channelled fibreglass hulls and cushioned stadium-style seating — quick and agile enough to get in close to lava tubes, sea caves, waterfalls and hidden beaches, but far more solid than a rubber raft. Four hours, with snorkelling and a sandwich lunch aboard. Ages 5 and up.
